Singapore:Supermarkets Will Charge For Plastic Bags
Recently, Sustainable Development & Environment Department of Singapore announced that two-thirds of Singapore supermarkets will start charging for disposable shopping bags from the middle of next year.The officer pointed out that although a shopping bag does bring a lot of convenience to daily life, it is also polluting the environment. Shopping bag charging has been popularized all over the world, including Taiwan, Hong Kong and Malaysia. Singapore also needs and should join the ranks of environmental protection.
Australia: Capital Canberra Strengthens Plastic Ban
According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the ban on disposable plastics in Canberra, the capital of Australia, has been further expanded. Under the latest law, food suppliers will be banned from using disposable plastic products at music festivals and sports events. This means that after that, there will be no plastic bowls, plates, disposable plastic straws and takeout containers in activities including Australian folk festival, Australian Football League and cricket games, but tableware and containers made of cardboard and other materials.
Japan: Plastic resource recycling law will be implemented next month
Japan Broadcasting Association (NHK) reported on March 9 that Japan will implement the plastic resource recycling law from next month. It stipulates that relevant enterprises such as convenience stores and accommodation industry have the obligation to reduce the use of plastics in 12 kinds of disposable plastic products provided to customers free of charge, such as plastic spoons and disposable toothbrushes.
According to relevant sources, the Japanese chain convenience store FamilyMart has initially decided not to provide customers with disposable forks and spoons.
FamilyMart plans to provide disposable bamboo chopsticks for customers who are currently using this service, and plans to start a pilot in some stores in the capital of Tokyo this week. After analyzing the response of customers and the impact on sales, it will decide whether to expand this measure to the whole country of Japan.
